I put a "hit counter" on Dan's Place....

...and there seems to be a lot more traffic here than I thought!

Come on, people! Write a response every now and again! I know this isn't a chat site or even a discussion forum, but it would be interesting to see what visitors think and start a discussion of sorts about some of the topics I visit.

This morning's headline "Romney wins Michigan!" was rather telling, especially in light of what I wrote yesterday. Apparently, a lot of other folks are tired of "business as usual" in Washington and are ready for some real change. As usual, the Dems are trotting out a host of "look what governement can do for you" folks. Romney seems to be the exception, telling people that government is too fat and needs to be curtailed. I agree. The thing that I'd most like to see is a genuine effort to make our tax system more equitable. Look, I know that taxes are necessary and that our government provides a lot of very important services. Most of those services could be performed just as well for a lot less money, IMHO. I know that the IRS is a necessary agency. There's a contingent of people out there who would go to extreme lengths to avoid paying anything at all, and that's why the system has to be changed. There are too many loopholes for people who have a lot of money such that they do not pay what they should. Should they pay 70% like they did at one time? I don't think so, but they should NOT be able to hide all of their cash in different "shelters" and pay nothing, either! I'd like to see us do away with income tax altogether and go with a straight sales tax. That way, people who consume in a big way pay big tax. Those who cannot afford to consume in a big way don't pay so much!

Anyway, I've got a meeting to go to, so I'll check in later. Respond, people! - Dan

So you decided to be a bean counter like so many other bloggers, such as yours truly. LOL

btw-have you read Rudy's tax reform and health care proposals? I find them very interesting. In fact, I'm holding off making a decision about who my candidate might be until after the Florida and Super Tuesday primaries.
You can read about his tax proposal at this blog: remove the space after "blogspot.com to access the site.

You can read his healthcare proposal at: [again, delete the space between "health2008" and "dr.cfm?"

Good to read your blog and your ideas once again, Dan. I'll be blogging about once every 10-12 days. Just can't get here every day - too many other demands on the day's time.

May our gracious LORD continue to bless you and yours to overflowing!!

In His love, grace and mercy

Kathy

Yes, it's nice to know who's "peeking in." LOL!

I'll read Rudy's proposals and comment. By and large, I like Guliani (did I spell that right?), but I don't know if he has much of a chance to win the nomination based upon his relatively poor showing thus far. Frankly, I think a lot of people have connected his ability to govern with decisions he's made in his personal life and have decided not to support him. The so-called "religious right" has a way of doing that, applying a litmus test to stands on marality that have little or nothing to do with the ability to govern or lead. The outcome looks a lot like Jimmy Carter in a lot of cases, I'm afraid.
I look in on yours from time to time; it's good to see you comment over here! I hope things are going well in Beauangel's world!

Dan, I think it's a fairly good sign that Rudy remains in about the 10% of voters in the primaries he has not worked. We'll see how the public responds to him beginning Florida and going on to Super Tuesday. If he makes a decent showing in Florida I think he can probably wipe out Huckabee [do we REALLY want a president with that name? ;) ] - also Thompson will probably be washed out in Florida and Super Tuesday, leaving a field of McCain [can't abide nor trust him, as well as being concerned about the pressures of the office on his health,] - Romney [I really think his is an unsurmountable mountain to climb. Something just doesn't resonate with the voting public.] - and Giuliani [he is, for me the most interesting as a capable, strong political leader.] we'll see.

Drop a note now and then as you lurk at beauangel's World, okay?

Blessings, dear friend!

This is most definitely going to be a very interesting year. Politics has become such a spectator sport.

Glad to see you around Dan. I am a fan from the old iwon days.

Thanks to Kathy for directing me!

Sure, I remember you, Suz!

Thanks for peeking in! I look in on Melee occasionally, but I seldom have anything to add to the discussion, so I just read and think back to those heady days and all of the interesting conversations we had, especially with "Mountainhiker" and "Riella." LOL! You know, I don't think we got anything accomplished in terms of changing minds or hearts, but it was a good way to vent and find out how other people think even in disagreement! Look in often! You never know what I'll have on my mind! LOL! - Dan
